You are a fickle creature, at times indecisive and turning no-point of return devilish shades with no more warning than a nostril flare of burning. I do so adore you with just a spring time blush; your coat just turning a beautiful golden brown. I will guiltily confess to turning away if you are sporting a summer tan, deep and too crisp.
Heavy German Pumpernickel, cloudlike white bread, nutty wholemeal, Italian fancy breads kneaded by Nonnas or simply complete with jewelled hunks of softly sweet fruit. I love you all.
Hunks of yeasty leavenings carved, then fired by temperamental machines of gleaming chrome.
You are the punctuation to mealtimes; morning toasts with a gloriously runny
egg, english muffins conveying opalescent eggs and rich hollandaise, club sandwiches beefing out
lunchtimes, sneaking into afternoon tea carousels and heroically
rescuing late dinners scooping fiery chilli or as toastie pies.
The simple act of toasting can even make gluten free bread taste good. Well, better in most cases anyway.

You are the hero of mealtimes. Anyone who doesn't enjoy you slathered in a topping of their choosing is just uneducated.
In fact, toasts, you are the best thing since sliced bread.
Ps. I swear I haven't lost the plot...

Can I just say, you are hilarious!
ReplyDeleteEver had toasted challah (Jewish bread)...it's bloody genius!
ReplyDeleteLots of love,

Toast really can make everything better! x
ReplyDeleteCheers to toast!
ReplyDeleteThis. So much this. And just so you know I'm serious:
ReplyDelete1) I used to have a toaster on my desk at work until I moved office. People thought I was mad but dammit I was toasty
2) My husband recently injured himself in the mad rush to get to his toast while it was still freshly sprung so that the butter would be all melty.
I've recently discovered challah and I most definitely concur. Not sure what to do with the left over phlegm I have after pronouncing it out loud, though x
ReplyDeleteI've had so much toast since being sick this last couple weeks after not having it in ages, and I must say, I agree with everything in this post! butter and honey with a little cinnamon have been my toast toppings lately.
ReplyDeleteHaha thank you for this post! (I literally just wrote 'toast' instead of 'post' on accident.) My absolute favorite food.
ReplyDeleteMmmm toasties! Always tricky finding the best toaster setting mind.
ReplyDeleteIt's important to research thoroughly! And often ☺
ReplyDeleteSuch a comfort!
ReplyDeleteYES please!!
ReplyDeleteWe are kindred spirits! What's your favourite topping?
ReplyDeleteIt is so simple, yet so delicious.
ReplyDeleteHehehe
ReplyDeleteIf I'm sick, all I ever want is toast with butter - I'm pretty convinced it somehow has healing properties...
ReplyDeleteThis is the second post about toast that I've seen this morning. Now I'm hungry again....
ReplyDeleteI love this post! I love toast! Beautiful words too x
ReplyDeleteOh I'll eat it any way, even plain, but when shit gets serious you must: Get two slices of toast. Slather one with jam (strawberry or blueberry in my humble opinion), cover the other in honey and smoosh them together into a sandwich with a multitude of sliced banana in the middle. It things look to be critical you may consider making a club sandwich variant with a nutella encrusted toast slab in the middle.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure it does as well!
ReplyDeleteWould you believe that one of the few points of contention in my marriage is about toast. I say you can toast any bread and Fredrik says that there is one type of bread to be toasted!!! Ahhhh drives me bonkers finally he is coming around but very very slowly and reluctantly!
ReplyDeleteOh my word I need some toast asap, I am actually drooling right now! x
ReplyDeleteGreat minds think alike!
ReplyDeleteToast rocks!
ReplyDeleteToast can be a controversial topic - in our house it's all about the level of toasted-ness (is that even a word?)
ReplyDeleteAnd I bet it really hit the spot!
ReplyDelete*can't reply, too busy eating*
