We loved it's quirky vibe,
the well named streets...
life lived on the canals...

pirates...
practical furniture hooks at the tops of buildings (owing to the narrow stairs)...
and old school shop signs...
Beatles links (the Amsterdam Hilton was the stage for John Lennon & Yoko Ono's honeymoon bed-in protest for peace)...
an adoration of cycling...
juxtaposed with the red light district...
and the voluptuous flower markets hugging the towpath...

clogs, always clogs - though everyone just wore trainers...
hours of childhood jokes about how Edam is made backwards...
surprising museums...
breathtaking art galleries...
windmills... but of course!
and ridiculously beautiful train stations...

Glad you had a great time! I love the photos!!
ReplyDeleteI loved my time in Amsterdam as well! I think it's a great city that sometimes gets written off as just for Uni backpackers who want to smoke. x
ReplyDeleteWe just booked a trip to Amsterdam for next Spring and I can't wait, this post just made me even more excited!
ReplyDeleteSuch an interesting place. I went when I was 21 but I'd love to go back and see it properly. Especially Anne Frank's House.
ReplyDeleteLots of love,

I have yet to meet someone who hasn't enjoyed their holiday in Amsterdam - it's one of our favorite places, too! :)
ReplyDeleteEmma Street must be the loveliest street in all of Amsterdam.
Oooh what a tease! I can't wait to visit Amsterdam some day soon. Beautiful photographs!
ReplyDeleteI think i'd have to buy some clogs if I ever went to Amsterdam, looks just a quirky and fun place to visit!
ReplyDeleteI may just have been tempted to (though miniature Christmas tree decorations!)
ReplyDeleteWe had the sunniest, loveliest long weekend there. It's so much more than drugs & red lights.
ReplyDeleteSuch a chilled out, fun city. I'd love to go back for Kingsday one year & watch the Dutch party!
ReplyDeleteWe'd already like to go back - it's a break that can be as relaxed as you like, or as busy as you want.
ReplyDeleteI have SO many tips for you!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely! There is so much more to it.
ReplyDeleteWe adored our weekend; sipping bevvies in the sunshine canalside. Lush!
ReplyDeleteAmsterdam is one of my favourite places to visit, it is so beautiful and much more than the stag and hen capital that I was expecting.
ReplyDeleteOne question for you actually if you don't mind:) What area of the city would you recommend looking for accommodation in? That is currently our biggest challenge.
ReplyDeleteAmster-damage is the best! ;)
ReplyDeleteAh I love Amsterdam, it is such a gorgeous city. Love your photos! x
